Aircraft maintenance personnel must have a license to have the capacity to perform technical repairs.
There are different types of licenses depending on the type of procedure performed by the technician:

License for category A for routine maintenance tasks on aircraft.
For programmed minor visits of maintenance online and simple corrections of defects (dayly visit, weekly visit, replacement of wheels, brakes or elements of cabin, etc) except fault finding.

License for category B1 for the tasks of maintenance mechanical, electric, engine or cell.
For operations of maintenance online on the cell of the aircraft, the power units, the systems mechanical and electric and the replacement of an interchangeable element avionics (LRU) requiring only simple tests.

Categories A and B1 are subdivided into subcategories relative to combinations of aeroplanes, helicopters, turbine
and piston engines. These subcategories are:
— A1 and B11 Aeroplanes Turbine
— A2 and B12 Aeroplanes Piston
— A3 and B13 Helicopters Turbine
— A4 and B14 Helicopters Piston

License for category B2 for the tasks of maintenance on the systems avionics or electric.

License for category B3 for the tasks of maintenance on piston-engine non-pressurised aeroplanes 2 000 kg MTOM and below.
